Select Location on Arda: Where Macaroni Penguins live: The Macaroni Penguin is well adapted to live in the tundra biome. On the Arda map this is right below the Daidelos ice cap. Climate and Physical Settings: Ten million years ago the planet was in an Ice Age. The planets average global temperature was 13 degrees Celsius. Many polar ice caps and glaciers were still around at this time. There wasn't much plant life around though. This region was mostly covered by ice and had few plants in this region. Environmental Changes: Environmental changes over ten million years: The Macaroni Penguin is going extinct. Since all the glaciers have melted, the penguins have barely any cold region to live in. It started off where most of the planet was cool, not very hot, and had a lot of snow, ice, and glaciers. But, as time went on the planet was getting warmer and warmer. All of a sudden the glaciers were melting, the snow and ice were turning into water, and things became disastrous for the tundra biome animals. Since all the ice was melting, more water was being produced. There was more area for Killer Whales to cover in the ocean and less land for the penguins to live on. As you can probably guess, more Macaroni Penguins were being eaten and more Killer Whales were being produced. Changes in the biome and climate: Climate: The climate has gone up drastically in the past ten million years. The climate has risen to 20 degrees Celsius. Almost ALL the glaciers have melted and disappeared. Biome: The climate has been rising ever since 9 million years ago. Because of this, all of those glaciers have been melting. The biggest glaciers that you have ever seen are now barely there, they have become the smallest you have seen. All the plants that used to live in the cold, now have to adapt to the change in climate or they will have to die. The water is now rising and covering the habitats that some of the animals lived in. Also, the biome has shrunk. It used to cover all the land above Beleriand, but now, that land is not even there. Impact on other Organisms: Changes in inter species interactions: The climate change has made many organisms homes disappear and sink. All of these animals were forced to adapt to these changes, die, or migrate and find a new home. The population of Killer Whales will greatly increase and so will the population for sea creatures like phytoplankton and different kinds of fish and also the population for Leopard Seals will rise. These animals mostly live in water and their offspring are born in water as well. It will be harder for the Macaroni Penguin to find food because all of its predators will be reproducing so more of its predators will be hunting. Yes, there will be more food for the penguins to eat, but also more predators.
